October 3, 2007 Stamford mourned the passing of one it's leading lights (Wednesday, October 3, 2007) when Anne McDonald died at the age of 74. McDonald served six terms as a Democratic State Represenative for Stamford's 148th State House District, on the east side. Prior to going to Hartford she was a member of the Stamford Board of Education in the 1970's.

Rep. McDonald is survived by her husband of 47 years, Alex, and the couple's four children. Their youngest, Andrew, has been the Democratic State Senator representing Stamford and Darien since 2002.

"She instilled in myself and in all my siblings the importance of being part of something bigger than yourself," Andrew McDonald said of his mother. "It was something we all admired in her."

She will be missed by the Stamford Democrats, her friends, her family and her former constituents.

Ellen Camhi, Chairwoman of the Stamford Democrats said that McDonald was " a brilliant woman," "She gave and gave and gave to the city in everything she did."She had a tremendous compassion, especially for children," said Camhi, "and she knew where every penny in the budget was."
