CONNECTICUT DEMOCRATS ELECT LIFELONG DEMOCRATIC ACTIVIST NANCY DINARDO AS
STATE PARTY CHAIR
DINARDO BECOMES FIRST WOMAN TO HOLD POST
1/19/05 Hartford - In an unanimous vote of Democratic State
Central Committee Members Wednesday, Nancy DiNardo replaced retiring Chair and
former Senate Majority Leader George Jepsen as Chairperson of the Connecticut
Democratic Party. DiNardo, a long time Town Chair from Trumbull, is most notably
recognized as the prolific fund-raiser and Treasurer for Dianne Farrell's 4th
Congressional District near upset against Chris Shays.
In a crowded room of Democratic elected officials, activists and party leaders,
DiNardo expressed her gratitude, as well as her commitment to build an even
stronger Democratic Party, "In addition, to raising money and providing more
resources at the local level, we must continue to rebuild our grassroots infrastructure
- We need to make sure that our upcoming municipal elections are well equipped
for victory, and in 2006 we need to take back the majority of our U.S. House
delegation, and win the Governor's race."

According to Ellen Camhi, Chairwoman of the Stamford Democrats, " Nancy DiNardo
will be a phenomenal State Chair. I have known her to be a model Town Chair,
an extraordinary leader, and a terrific fundraiser. I am also thrilled that
we have broken another barrier for women in Connecticut. It was long overdue."
Also Elected as an officer to the State Party is North Haven State Representative Steve Fontana, who will now serve a two year term as Vice Chairman. Rep. Fontana, a six-term legislator and Chair of the General Assembly's Energy & Technology Committee was enthusiastic about the state of the Democratic Party and its potential as we approach the 2006 Gubernatorial Elections, "the State Party and the Democratic Majority in the General Assembly have built an unprecedented partnership over the past few years. I look forward to working with Nancy to build an even stronger party that continues to champion the causes of our working families."
The Democratic State Party Chair is elected by 72 State Central Members representing the 36 State Senate Districts throughout Connecticut.
