FOURTH CD DEMS ENDORSE JIM HIMES

A delegation of Stamford Democrats joined Democrats from around the Fourth Congressional District Monday night to enthusiastically endorse Jim Himes of Greenwich to run for Congress.

"We are at a unique moment in our history," Himes, 41, former Greenwich Democratic Town Committee Chairman, said during the district convention at Cesar A. Batalla School in Bridgeport.

"My opponent complains that our nation and our great party have become too partisan," he said. "But he represents a party that has lost its way, abandoned the values of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, and sought advantage by turning American against American. Rich against poor, native against immigrant, black against white."

Himes, a Rhodes Scholar-trained businessman-turned-nonprofit executive, blamed Shays for following President Bush "as he wrecked our economy, ravaged our Constitution and ruined our nation's reputation in the world."

Ellen Camhi, Chairwoman of the Stamford Democrats, said that, “Jim Himes has an excellent background to represent our District in Congress. He has worked to reduce urban poverty, is familiar with our neighbors in Latin America and was a leader in the private sector as well. I agree with him when he says that our job, our common purpose is  to support the American dream by making sure that every child of Connecticut has access to education, to healthcare, to safe neighborhoods and good jobs," said Camhi.
